Nanao Set of 5 Japanese Candles

$45.00

Using the traditional "wa-rousoku" technique, this set of five Nanao candles are entirely crafted by hand with methods dating back to the 18th century. The hollow washi paper core is hand-rolled into a pointed tip and encased in a vegetable seed wax, giving them their characteristic tall bright flames. Traditional Japanese candles are slower burning, give off less smoke than conventional candles, and are odorless making them well suited for the dinner table and long lazy evenings. The five stylized plant based motif forms were designed by Takahashi Sayoko as a modern take on an ancient craft while staying true to the traditional methods and materials. They are still made in the city of Nanao today.
